More

When it comes to superfoods, think more. Recently, when working closely with a client during Mindfulness Coaching, the topic of nutrition came up and it so often does. This makes perfect sense because when we are talking Mindfulness we are simply talking about becoming the observer of the self. When we are observing the self; it includes noticing sensations within the body, sensations within the mind that affect the body, and vice versa. There’s a boatload of science behind the optimal superfoods that support a healthy body and mind, this isn’t new news to most humans today. Incorporating healthy and nourishing foods impacts stress levels, hormone health, bone, muscular, brain health, and emotional centers. With the holiday season upon us, it’s key to make sure that we put our health at the front and nutrition is vital to maintain overall wellbeing.

While diving into a better understanding of nutrition and its key roles in the body and brain, I so luckily discovered a doctor/muscle-building mom, Dr. Gabrielle Lyon, founder of Muscle Centric Medicine who so gracefully shares a better way of thinking about incorporating nourishing, superfoods. As she highlights this simple thought process, she mentions that most of her clients possess an undertone of lack when it comes to discussing nutrition. We often think about our nutrition behind an eye of lack, for example: I often hear: “ I need to stop eating ____.” “I need to eat less ____.” “I should stop having _____ at ____ time.” “I definitely have to cut out _____.” Oftentimes there is a benefit to cutting out processed sugars and more, however, the constant mental loop of all the things we’re lacking or needing to cut or get rid of tends to bring a sense of overwhelm and self-doubt. So instead of seeing where or what you need to rid of, ask what you can include MORE of.

We often hear a voice of lack when it comes to nutrition wellness, but we don’t have to. Instead, state from a place of More. “Today I am going to have more greens at lunch, or more lentils tonight.” Helping kids through the idea of more nourishing food is great! You can ask: “What do you want to have more of with your nuggets? More blueberries or apples?” “This week I am going to add a few more carrots into my juices. Or I’ll add more black beans to ___.” This simple change in thought pattern when it comes to incorporating superfoods has impacted thousands of her clients and hopefully, you can find a little more right from where you are.
