When your child is diagnosed with cancer, your world turns upside down in an instant. Suddenly, your vocabulary is filled with words like "oncology," "neutropenia,"
September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and we were grateful to spend part of it sharing Amanda’s story on 12 News.
Founder Lorraine Tallman sat down alongside board member Keisha McFadden and longtime supporter Pat Bond to talk about where Comfycozy’s for Chemo began. It started with a question Amanda asked her mom one night: why can’t we have a shirt with peekaboo compartments? That single idea became the adaptive apparel our warriors wear today, designed with port access and side openings so nurses can reach a central line or feeding tube without a child having to expose their body in a chemo room.
Lorraine also shared the wellness side of our work, from mindfulness books and breathing buddies to counseling, yoga, and Reiki. Teaching a warrior how to breathe through a painful treatment is its own kind of comfort, and it is one Amanda understood before anyone else did.
The conversation closed with an invitation. Our 14th Annual Night of Hope Gala is Friday, October 2 at the Grand Hyatt Scottsdale, and this year’s theme is All Things Amanda, full of the rainbow colors she loved. Sponsorships and tickets are still available.
